Send In The Cows!

Cowparade in Athens
First cows of the cow parade

This morning as I was still sleepy riding the bus to work I saw a couple of bright painted cows at the Parko Eleftherias - quite a herd of them actually. In reflex I grabbed my camera phone and was able to shoot this pic. I expected to see more cows along the way, but no luck. Maybe they are more towards the center, maybe they just started being herded out... what's going on is the Athens CowParade.

The cowparade is an event that originated in Zurich, life-size plastic cows are painted by various artists and placed all over town. After being a success in Zurich, the cowparade went to other places (first stop was Chicago IIRC). The City of Athens has some information about the locations of the cow parade.

Re: Send In The Cows!

There are cows that roam around where I live - around 12midnight or so. It's kinda weird... But in a sense it's funny :D We call them midnight cows ;)

Re: Send In The Cows!

Good morning Sascha! A colleague of mine told me earlier that there are 50 of them spread all over town, so let's see more of them in the days to come. You can see some in Panepistimiou and Thissio as well... mouuuy regards, Marialena

Re: Send In The Cows!

Gotta love the cows. My favorite: the green cow wrapped in rope and marked "fragile" (location: near Starbucks, Panepistimiou)

Check out my map!

I took pictures of almost all the cows of the "parade" and I've placed them on a map of Athens.
You can check out the result here (in Greek):

Hope you like it!:-)

Re: Check out my map!

mmjrules: Corrected the link, but... google maps reports some problems with the key, so I get lots of error pop ups, no map. :-(

I can see some cow pictures, when I click on the numbers. But more google maps key errors with each link.

betabug:
Which browser do you use? I once got this problem with Internet Explorer 7 beta. Also, some versions of IE 6 don't show the map at all, so I guess it's one of those Microsoft bugs!:-)

There are no problems with Mozilla or Firefox, you can try with one of them.

Sorry for the trouble!:-(

Re: Send In The Cows!

Guessing from HELMug references in your blog and your pics at Syntagma square (+ my visit logs), you're using the MAC browser (Safari ?), right?

I think you're the first on who visits my blog with Safari, I didn't know there where compatibility issues with Panoramio.

I'll contact them to inform of this problem.

Re: Send In The Cows!

It's not a browser problem (I *definitely* don't use Internet Exploder). I think the problem is that the Google key for the maps allows only a certain number of uses (per day? per week? I don't know). When those are through, it gives a stupid error message about the key not being valid for this website, and the map doesn't display.

Right now it works, the last time I tried it didn't.

Re: Send In The Cows!

That might be it, I've been trying to promote my effort by metablogging it in other blogs that reffered to the Cow Parade, so there has been a lot of traffic lately.

I've already contacted the Panoramio team, maybe they have something more to say.

I think we should move this conversation to our mail, I have already made enough damage to your post! That might be it, I've been trying to promote my effort by metablogging it in other blogs that reffered to the Cow Parade, so there has been a lot of traffic lately.
